WASH 2012 Newsletter

October 2, 2012

Courtesy of Paul Catterwell, WASH 2012 Bookings Officer.

With less than two months to go now, all the acts are booked, the DJ is booked and daytime entertainment planned, Paul is busy sorting out the half board option and making sure the bar has enough beer for us all.

The news is…….

On the Saturday we will be holding our School Fete. We will have several sideshows that you can play at using “WASH” money, with prizes to win. We need volunteers to help run the stalls, possibly with a percentage of the takings to go towards your own club funds if it make a profit. We have several ideas already, but if you have an idea that you are prepared to arrange and supervise, then please get in touch. If you would just like to help supervise one our stalls, also please let us know. So far we have (excuse the strange descriptions in places!):

  • Buzzy Wire (supplied and staffed by members of ASEA ,thank you)
  • Bounce Ping Pong Balls into Jars (already staffed)
  • Name theTeddy (already staffed)
  • Treasure Map
  • Human Fruit Machine (already supervised but volunteers need to be part of the “machine”)
  • Bean bag skittles
  • Tombola

Following on from the school fete, to complete the day we will finish with a “School Disco.” Fancy dress optional, but encouraged! Feedback from last year suggested that one of the best bands was the Sundaynight one – as so many people had to leave beforehand last year, we have invited Fully Funktional back this year to play at our school disco on Saturday.

Sunday night will have a real dance party atmosphere and during the daytime we have an activity which to our knowledge is entirely new to a Plus event and involves a little cultural education as well as some exercise. Please bring comfortable clothing and shoes.

Please remember when booking accommodation, that the “rating”, ie gold, silver etc, is based on type of heating, not necessarily accommodation age or quality.

The Area meeting on 14th October has changed venue to Ardleigh House Community Association in Hornchurch. Meanwhile, the date of the Area Video Games event has been confirmed for the 2nd December, and will be taking place at our own venue, the White Horse in Chadwell Heath. For full details please see our Events page.

September 6, 2012

Anglia & South East Area is organising a Video Games event this December! This has now been added to our club’s programme (see the Events page).

Programme updated

August 29, 2012

We are now accepting sponsors for our Pirate Charity Walk from Barking Station to City Limits, Collier Row, on September 22nd. Also, those nice people at Haven House have supplied us with some t-shirts – presumably to be worn in addition to our pirate costumes. Arrrr!

There has been a slight alteration in the order of club-night events: Joe’s Pirate Memory Game will now be on September 25th, whilst Richard’s Scattergories will be on Tuesday 4th.

For full details please see our Events page.

Plus TV: Local Community Group Taken Over By Pirates

August 7, 2012

Allyson Alligood attempts to present our newest edition of PLUS TV with the worst pirate accent ever. 😉

New Programme of Events!

August 7, 2012

You are now able to see our new Programme for August to October 2012. This includes details of weekend trips up to Clacton, going out in central London, and our annual Charity Walk, in aid of Haven House. There also seems to be a preponderance of pirate-themed events, for some reason.

For more details, please see the Events page.

Happy Birthday Gemma!

May 30, 2012

In a move which surprised absolutely no-one, last night we had a Surprise Birthday celebration for Gemma our illustrious chair, who has now turned 21. For the third time. 😉 It just so happened that we had a record turn-out that evening as well: around twenty of us came to wish Gemma many happy returns – fourteen B&D members and six guests.

In honour of Gemma’s happy day, we played Countdown, which was won by a team which included Your Humble Blogmaster. 🙂
