Further update from Paul Catterwell of the WASH Committee:
Hi all
12 weeks Friday or 88 days if you prefer to the biggest party of the year WASH is 30!!!
All the bands are daytime entertainment is booked and we are going to give you a flavour of what’s in store this year. This waffle is a little background on the Saturday evening band.
This band were a popular British pop music band that found popularity in the early 1980#s. Formed in 1980 by previous members of an earlier band called the Leighton Buzzards, the band enjoyed 7 Top 15 hits before they broke up in 1985.
2012 saw the band play Lets Rock The Moor festival with other 80’s acts including Go West, Toyah, Nick Heywood and Billy Ocean.
The dress theme for the night is 1984 as tribute to the first WASH, which cost the grand sum of £15.00 per ticket.
[NB: WASH cost £15 back in 1984! The cost, however, of the Saturday evening event for WASH 2013 is included in the price of the whole weekend. Editor.]
Next WASH Waffle will have info on the Friday night band, who many of you will have heard of too!

Cambridge Day Out
This from Trevor Eley, Diary Keeper for Anglia & South East Area Plus:
Hi all,
Just to let you know the details for the Area day trip to Cambridge. It’s on Sunday 11th August (i.e. Sunday week) and the plan is to meet by the green in front of Kings College, which is on Kings Parade, a couple of minutes walk from the market place, at 12 o’clock (or noon if that’s too early). [Sic. Before you mock, please remember that in British Summer Time, technically “noon” is at 1pm! Ed.]
If you’re going by train, the 9.55 from Liverpool Street is the one to catch (change at Harlow Town). It’ll get us to Cambridge station at about 11.20. You can save money by getting group saver tickets, so 4 people can go for the price of 2, which works out about £8 – 10 return from Liverpool Street per person.
If you’ve any queries please contact me or Martin Posner, and as a treat, I believe Martin said the ice creams are on him! [Let’s hope he doesn’t flake out on us! Aha! See what I did there? 😉 Ed.]
Said Gemma Crader (23), Barking & Dagenham Plus’ chair:This is just the first of a number of fund-raising events we’re doing this year. In September we are going on a sponsored walk from Benfleet, via Hadleigh Country Park, to Southend, dressed as characters from Doctor Who!
WASH 2013 update
Paul Catterwell, WASH 2013 booking officer, writes:
It’s finally ready, all the paperwork for you to book for WASH 2013.This year marks a special landmark for WASH, it’s celebrating it;’s 30th birthday, so we are aiming to make it a really special occasion by offering a great mix of daytime activities and eventing entertainment PRICES HAVE BEEN HELD YET AGAIN THIS YEAR! In fact the price is the same as we paid at Searles in 2004!We would request that where possible if you are a larger group if you can book 4 berths and not use 6 berths as we traditionally do not know what e can use to a few days beforehand and usually there are only 4 or 5 6 berths. If this is going to cause people to potentially not come we will of course do our utmost to sort it.
To sort our your place at WASH – which is the premier PLUS holiday of the year, featuring three days of partying, live bands, and other fun activities – be sure to come along to our club night on Tuesday at the White Horse, Chadwell Heath, from 9pm.
Day Out To Clacton
It was a lovely sunny Saturday morning when a few of the members of Barking and Dagenham Plus joined members for the Area for a day trip to Clacton-on-Sea on 15/6, after a nice leisurely train ride, members from Redbridge, Havering and Romford, joined members of B & D at Clacton’s famous pier for a day of fun, leisure and having a laugh.
Having had a nice walk along the pier and along the promenade, the lovely British weather decided to change and become very windy, thankfully the sun was still shining and a short walk back into town allowed for members to get the good old fashioned Fish and Chips from one of the local chip shops, luck would have it that by then no one was on the beach otherwise the meals would have been very sandy. After the short break for lunch members carried on to the local crazy golf and took part in a mini tournament for the day, during which the heavens decide that it was enough with the sun now have some rain.
Later on after the game, all the members re-joined back on the pier and spent their hard earned cash on winning those little trinkets that all good arcades like to place into their machines. After an hour of spending money that we did not really have and not coming away with much we all convened to the local public house just at the start of the pier and had a quick drink before heading home around 16.00hrs, mainly due to the change in weather, some of us unfortunately getting caught in a sudden downpour and ending up soaked on the ride home.
Richard – our group treasurer stated – “Although the weather kept changing throughout the day it was still an enjoyable day out and was nice to meet up with other members from the area.”
Thanks to RL for this
