The Barking & Dagenham Pool Tournament
The members of B&D Plus had just enough time to race out of the house following the new episode of Doctor Who to make it to Namco Funscape in Romford, for the Annual Barking & Dagenham Pool Tournament. The winner of the singles tournament was new member Charlie.
Whilst the winners of the Doubles championship was none other than Gemma and Richard.
Telly Addicts
This evening at our regular club night we played “Telly Addicts” hosted by Noel Edmonds – via a DVD helpfully provided by our Richard. Well, it was almost as good!
This Saturday is the First Annual Barking & Dagenham Pool Tournament. We will be meeting up at Namco Funscape in the Brewery, Romford, at 7.30pm.
Extreme Jenga!
On Tuesday evening Sanya organised the National Jenga Championship at the White Horse in Chadwell Heath. Here are the exciting results!
Brean 2011: Photos
Members of Barking & Dagenham Plus went on a weekend break to Brean Sands, Somerset, along with over a hundred Plussers from all over the country. The event was organised by Bexi Cooke. More news as it comes in, but for now, here are some photos of the weekend, courtesy of Richard Leach:
Solved: The Mystery of “Mysterious Night”
Tuesday evening Joe unveiled the surprise event of the evening – a musical challenge called “Noteability,” in which team-members have to guess the tune from what each contestant plays on a piano.
This Saturday we are due to go Bowling at the Namco Funscape (formerly known as Number Ten Bowling Alley), the Brewery, Romford, whilst Saturday week is Brean, the National Plus Holiday at Brean Sands in Somerset. Apparently one of the bands playing at Brean is a Blues Brothers Tribute Bands, whilst there will also be a Real Ale Trip as a daytime excursion during the weekend.
Incidentally I am informed by the organisers that it is just about possible for people to book up for Brean even now, however the full balance of £72.50 must by stumped up immediately (Plussers who have said they were intending to go – take note!).

Local club PLUS doesn’t just provide a social outlet for its members – it actually helps them by putting on events which they will find useful. This weekend, members from all over the country converged on Lichfield for a Food Safety Course leading to an accredited professional qualification – all put on for free, exclusively for Plussers.
Many Plussers took advantage of the free help in order to help them in their careers. Attendee James Oliver described it as a “really good course.” Organiser Francis Wallington said: “I was glad to see that the event was fully booked. I felt it went well. I was particularly glad to see some participants who started off lacking self-confidence nevertheless finished the day successfully.”
The local branch of PLUS meets at the White Horse Inn, Chadwell Heath, every Tuesday evening from 9pm. For more info, including how to join, please phone Joe on 07958 669339, or visit www.barkingdagenhamplus.com
Forget Comic Relief – Here’s “Cowboy Relief” (Press Release)
Yee-hah! Not so much “Red Nose” – more “Red Indian!” That was the theme this Saturday as members of Barking & Dagenham Plus raised money for the charity – by organising a Wild West themed disco.
Over three hundred people dressed in Cowboy outfits came, from all over south-east England, to the event, which was put on in London Colney. PLUS is a national organisation for young people aged 18 to 35 who work in the community and raise money for Charity – and have a good time doing so.
Barking & Dagenham Plus’ own Gemma, 21, even won a prize for the Prettiest Cowgirl! She said:
“I had such a wicked time on Saturday night! Not only did I meet up with friends I had made from all over the country, we raised about £450 for charity as well.”
Plus meet every Tuesday at 9pm in the White Horse Inn, Chadwell Heath. For more information phone Joe on 07958 669339 or visit www.barkingdagenhamplus.com
Taboo
We had an indescribable club-night last night – literally. We were joined by members of West Suffolk Plus who were visiting for the evening, for an event similar to the popular game Taboo. So similar in fact that because of copyright reasons the manufacturers weren’t allowed to describe it as such. Irony or what!
This Saturday a large group of us will be going to Barnet Plus’ disco at the Golden Lion in London Colney. The theme is The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. According to Barnet member Mark Hawkins, “the Good will be playing the music, the Bad will be on the dance-floor, and the Ugly will be taking the money.” At least two Barking & Dagenham members will be taking their cars and so may be able to offer lifts. Please get in touch if interested.

They’re Just Mad for Wills & Kate! (Press Release)
Royal-wedding fever is affecting local residents in strange ways – none more so than in the case of Gemma Crader, 21, who has announced that she will be setting up camp on the Mall for up to a week in advance – just so as to get the best view of the happy couple!
Miss Crader, who is chair of “Barking & Dagenham Plus” – said:
“I am just mad for the royal wedding! I am going to be camped out by Buckingham Palace. You will see me on the TV because I will be the one wearing the ‘PLUS’ t-shirt.
I am well-used to living in a tent. We often organise weekend breaks at rock festivals and sporting events – which we run ourselves. Admittedly this is the first time I’ve done it outside a Royal residence instead of in a field.”
Barking & Dagenham Plus meet every Tuesday at the White Horse, Chadwell Heath, from 8.30pm, and welcome new member enquiries. For more information please phone Joe on 07958 669339, or visit www.barkingdagenhamplus.com
