Members of Barking & Dagenham Plus who took part in the sponsored Walk

Members of a local community group commemorated the anniversary of one of their deceased friends at the weekend: with a sponsored walk to raise money for Cancer charities.

Barking & Dagenham Plus, a social group for young adults, staged a sponsored walk around Canvey Island in Essex on Saturday 12th September. The walk was nine miles long and collectively they raised over £300 in doing so.

Club chairman Richard Leach explained:

“Several years ago, one of our members, Adrian Pembroke, tragically died of cancer – so every September we hold a charity fundraising event in his honour. We also put on other events throughout the year: we intend to be staging a Charity Darts Tournament nearer to home in Chadwell Heath, later in 2015.”
