“That’s What Friends Are For” (Press Release)

October 15, 2018

Barking-based charities are able to benefit from a Facebook feature when it comes to raising money. This is what local community group “Barking & Dagenham Plus” found when supporting their chosen charity, “Bright Horizons Foundation For Children.”

Barking & Dagenham Plus member Joseph Gurney explained:

“As it was my birthday coming up, I decided to use Facebook’s ‘Donate Your Birthday’ feature to create a fund-raiser for our club’s chosen charity. Instead of sending me cards or presents, my Facebook Friends pledged money instead. I managed to raise £175 this way (I’d been aiming for £150). Facebook itself chipped in £5 of that.

“Our club is a social organisation for adults in the Barking & Dagenham area. We also run events like a Charity Texas Hold ‘Em tournament, so we can provide a fun night out for our members as well as supporting good causes at the same time.”

Barking & Dagenham Plus meet at the Beacon Tree in Green Lane every Tuesday evening at 9pm. For more information, please contact Joe on 07958 669339, or visit http://www.barkingdagenhamplus.com
