Last week saw members of Thurrock Plus Group (formerly Thurrock 18 Plus Group) enter the East Anglia Area Bowling Competition in Dagenham. Surprisingly enough Thurrock won for the first time since 1999, thanks to an impressive score from club secretary Joe Gurney. Joe put the win down to the regular practice that Thurrock had been getting as they have concentrated more on “out nights” during the week, where they do bowling –among other activities- regularly. He also joked that his comparative sobriety during the day – as opposed to a weekday evening – helped as well.

That evening some of Thurrock’s members went to the “Southern Area Pink Party”, where part of the proceeds went to cancer research charity as part of the national cancer awareness.

Some important information about Thurrock is that they are planning on a change of venue to improve facilities for their members, which means that they will be holding events away from their current venue for the next month and anyone interested in joining is invited to contact a Committee member first to find out where they will be meeting. Thurrock hope to be holding a grand opening night in their new venue by the end of November.

Thurrock had a successful new members night last Thursday and will be visiting Barkingside Plus this Thursday before going to the Annual live entertainment weekend in Hunstanton Norfolk (called WASH).

Upcoming events in the East Anglia Area and nationally will be Barking and Dagenhams talent night, Thurrock and Barkingside’s Christmas meal, a trip to “the Venue” in New Cross, Area Dogs night, Redbridge’s Charity Quiz, Ice skating, Christmas Shopping in London, the National Ski-ing holiday and a planned trip to Centre Parks early next year.

Thurrock Plus is a lively and friendly sports and social organisation for people in the 18 to 35 age range; it is run completely by its members and offers a wide-ranging programme of regular events, often in conjunction with other groups in East Anglia Area.
